Safe Surfing
If you require further help, please email info@embossed.co.uk.
While your computer may be at risk from viruses and banner ads, the people that use your computer are also at risk, particularly children and other unwary users. The internet is by no means dangerous, but it pays to be cautious about site content and other internet users.
Please email us if you would like further advise. There are links at the bottom of the page to relevant sites.
Unpleasant Content
Responsible sites label their content to show that it is safe to visit. You can use settings in Internet Explorer and other browsers, to restrict access so that you are either warned, or unable to visit, sites that may cause offense.
ICRA is the authority that provides these "labels", you can visit their site to learn more. http://www.icra.org/
How to restrict access to sites, Internet Explorer 5.5

Select "Tools", "Internet Options" from your menu bar at the top.
This will open up a new window, as shown below.
Select the "Content" tab at the top.

In the screen above, click on "Enable",
you will open up the Content Advisor window (below)

If you decide to restrict access, you will need to change the Password.
Make sure you don't forget it!!!
Select the "Ratings" tab at the top, and you can see a list of content categories (below).
You can restrict access to each category using the sliding scale

Be aware that sites with un-rated content will also be barred.
If you want to visit a site that is unrated, or has a rating that would normally be barred, you can allow access by clicking on the "Approved Sites" tab at the top.

You can see here, as an example I have added the bbc so that it is "Always" allowed.
I have also added beseen.com so that it is "Never" allowed.
This is because it hosts chat rooms, and I do not want children using my computer to visit them.
How does this effect my own website?
You should make sure your site is properly labelled, and registered with ICRA. http://www.icra.org/
All our client sites are labelled, to ensure they are accessible according to ratings systems, as outlined above.
